Why do so many men feel lonely?
Today’s culture plays a huge role in men experiencing loneliness, with two main influences being a lack of close friendships and the digital world.
Dr. William Brock, PhD, is a psychologist at Sharp Grossmont Hospital. He works in Outpatient Behavioral Health Services, where he is the primary therapist for a program in mood disorders — including anxiety, depression and bipolar disorders.
He specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI). He has extensive experience working with people who have substance use problems, and serves as an advisor to SMART Recovery, a community-based self-help program.
Dr. Brock enjoys learning new things about the field of mental health, and about all the people who come to him for help. He explains, "As people learn to cope with their challenges and learn to live their emotional life differently, we see them not only feeling better, but developing the skills to handle the new challenges life will present."
