Estimate Your Cost of Care
We're committed to helping you make informed choices about your care.
At Sharp HealthCare, we offer price estimates in advance of your care to help you understand your out-of-pocket costs at a Sharp hospital or Sharp Rees-Stealy location.
Sharp hospital estimates will reflect hospital charges only. Physicians, radiologists, pathologists, anesthesiologists and/or emergency room physicians will bill you separately for each service. Sharp Rees-Stealy estimates will reflect all services received at a Sharp Rees-Stealy location.
What you'll need for your estimate.
In order for us to provide you with the most accurate estimate, we'll need specific information about your insurance coverage and the care you'll be receiving.
Please have the following information available when you submit your request.
Hospital requests
The type of hospital visit (inpatient or outpatient) may affect how you are you billed and what you will have to pay for out-of-pocket. Please note: observation services are considered hospital outpatient services.
Current procedural terminology (CPT) code
Many surgery and procedure names sound similar so providing the CPT code will help us better determine your estimate. You can find the CPT code on the order from your doctor.
If you cannot find the CPT code, please contact your physician's office to obtain either the CPT code or a detailed description of services.
Insurance information
The amount covered varies depending on your insurance company and your specific policy. You will need to submit the following information with your request:
- Health plan name
If you are an uninsured hospital patient, you may be eligible for a discount on medically necessary services. Learn more about our financial assistance program. - Health plan member ID number
- Subscriber name (if not patient)
- Subscriber ID (if not patient)
- Subscriber date of birth (if not patient)
Subscriber's personal information
If you are a subscriber — acting on behalf of the patient — the insurance company may need to verify your personal information, including Social Security number and date of birth.
During the price estimating process, we will attempt to verify your specific insurance benefits to provide the most accurate representation of your estimated financial obligation based on your specific coverage.
Understanding your estimate.
Any information you receive is only an estimate, and may be more or less than your final bill.
The estimate takes into consideration the information you and your provider share with us regarding your service, including anticipated services, insurance coverage, copayments, deductibles and coinsurance.
Many factors may influence the actual amount you will be billed, including changes to the services actually performed and updates in your coverage not reflected at the time estimates were provided.
Cost of services.
Out-of-pocket costs will likely differ significantly for many reasons.
You may receive a bundle of services (e.g., procedures, lab tests, drugs or supplies) during your visit. Without knowing what your physician has ordered for your visit, it may be difficult to combine the services in the following tabs to reflect what occurred during your visit.
Your insurance negotiates rates with Sharp HealthCare, and your particular plan design can largely affect your out-of-pocket costs for your visit.
If you do not have insurance, you may be eligible for our hospital financial assistance program. View our Financial Assistance Policy for more information and to access our application.
Because there are many different variables that can affect your out-of-pocket expenses, we encourage you to complete our Price Estimate Request to receive an estimate for your out-of-pocket costs.
