Are you feeling irritable, anxious or overwhelmed? Are you crying frequently? Do you need support and are unable to find it? Do you have a history of anxiety and/or depression?

If you answered "yes" to one or more of the questions above, you are not alone. Postpartum mood disorders affect up to 20 percent of new mothers and are very treatable. Join our free support group for new mothers to share experiences and get support.

The group offers education and support for women suffering "baby blues" symptoms, postpartum depression and/or anxiety. Babies newborn to 12 months are welcome to attend.

Topics addressed may include:

  • Feelings of isolation
  • How to seek support
  • Issues related to postpartum mood disorders
  • Parenting struggles
  • Professional referrals
  • Suggestions on how to cope
  • What have others done

Parking Information plus

All visitors to the Women's Center park in the main parking structure (structure 2), adjacent to the main entrance to the hospital. Parking is free for visits under an hour. For one to four-hour visits, the rate is $3. Fees beyond 4 hours are an additional $2 every 15 minutes with a maximum of $20 a day. A multiday parking pass is available from the parking attendant for $15.

The support group at Sharp Grossmont is led by Jutta Muranto. Muranto is a licensed clinical social worker.

Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women & Newborns
The support group at Sharp Mary Birch is led by Cara Fairfax. Fairfax has her master’s degree in social work and is a licensed clinical social worker. She has many years of experience working with children and families and the obstetrics and postpartum population.

This group meets every Tuesday from 9:30 to 11 am.
